Directions: The Pool can be accessed through the RAC men’s and women’s changing rooms which are located on the north side of the building.

*It is suggested that participants get to the pool with enough time to change before the course begins.

This two hour kayak course focuses on paddle strokes, safety and rescue. Whether you are new to paddling or have just never had any formal training, this course offers the skills and knowledge to keep you safe and comfortable on the water.

The class will begin with on land introductions and a safety chat where we will go over proper safety equipment, Transport Canada regulations, weather, and proper paddling clothing. Once we get in the pool we will then learn the strokes needed to get you going. Strokes covered are: Front stroke, sweep stroke, draw stroke, and low brace. The second half of the lesson will be spent on rescues. We cover both group and self rescues with and without a paddle float. This part of the course requires you to capsize the boat and get wet, so be prepared!

Participant/Instructor ratio is 4:1 with a max of 8 students with two instructors

What to bring: bathing suit and towel. Nose plugs, goggles or mask if wanted (it helps). All other equipment will be provided. There is no need to bring your receipt, but please do bring photo ID. No personal Kayaks will be allowed for use during these courses.

Refund Policy

We understand that things come up and that you may need to cancel your spot in the course. We will gladly refund the full cost of the course or move you to another date, with 48 hours notice. Refunds will not be issued for courses that are cancelled with less than 48 hours notice.
