The Little Bonnechere, as this section of river is traditionally called, is one of eastern Ontario’s best canoeing rivers, with a fine combination of natural beauty, a little moving water, several small lakes and intriguing human history.

It makes a great introduction to river and small lake paddling, or a fun, short-duration trip for the experienced paddler. Starting in Algonquin Park at Basin Lake, this route runs southeast along a narrow forest-edged river before opening up a little to a chain of lakes and meandering river to the lower terminus at pleasant and well-appointed Bonnechere Provincial Park. That Park is on the shore of rather good-sized, and appropriately-named Round Lake, so you can enjoy some further paddling or sea kayaking possibilities there as well as the serviced campground, showers, clothes-washing facilities, campfires, parking, playgrounds, summer programs and other typical Ontario Parks amenities.

This 1:25,000 scale map covers the 35-kilometre section of river between Basin Lake in Algonquin Park and Round Lake, and has all the usual Adventure Map® features including extraordinary terrain and vegetation details, access points, just about every building and cottage along the route, portages, campsites, points of interest, fish species and lots of text and photos about local natural and human history, detailed route description, safety concerns, contact information and much more.
